House Rua do Teatro

Rehabilitation project and transformation of a two-family house into a single-family house with three suites.

The great challenges of this house are related to its insertion in a narrow and long lot, with only two fronts (east-west) and with access from the 1st floor.

The creation of the 3 suites was clearly determined that they would be on the 1st floor.

The lighting by skylights and glass floor, in the intermediate slab in the stair circulation area, were fundamental to bring lighting and ventilation to the central area of the house.

On Floor 0, semi-buried, the entire social area (kitchen and common room in open space) and services (laundry/storage and service toilet) are developed, which open to a patio.

We chose to fully maintain the east street façade, because the architectural design is of great interest, while the late elevation, as it is already quite adulterated, we chose to create a contemporary elevation.

The temporal duality does not prove to be antagonistic, but rather a dialogue of generations.
